Module 7: Ethics as a Thrust for Nation Building

Nation building depicts the endless efforts by the Native nations to maintain the community and develop the economic. Nation building involves a comprehensive effort to reform a better society as well as fully use of the nation’s capacity to develop the country. Through the nation-building approach, it is discovered that Native nations today face the classic problems of human societies such as ways to manage environment and utilized natural resources, ways to solve difficult social problems and ways to build effective, independent governments. A nation-building approach understands that Native nations are concentrating on improving community life as well as maintaining their typical nationhood and also not only with creating programs to solve certain problems but with becoming efficient and effective problem-solvers.

In Malaysia, there are many government bodies and companies that have a significant role in building the nation. For instances are Malaysian Airline System (MAS) and Tabung Haji. MAS is a company which provides air transportation and has been representing Malaysia in the world. Tabung Haji is a place where Muslims are supposed to contribute their income to.

Nowadays, we heard much news about building collapsing, landslides and flash flood in Malaysia. Why do these cases happen so often? This could probably due to the unethical acts of the developers. In order to get more profit, they tend to use less quality of materials which caused the building to collapse. The developers build buildings at hillsides when there is not enough of land. Thus, many trees and forest have been destroyed in order to prepare the sites for constructions. Flash flood is caused by the ineffectiveness of the drainage system.

It is important for us to have determination when doing something. We need to have ethics in everything we do in order to gain others’ respect. Only then we will feel satisfied and grateful with our achievements.

In this module 7, I learn that we must play our part in building nation so that our country can be developed and have a better economic position.
