Modul 2: Ethics from the Religious Perspectives

A central aspect of ethics is "the good life", the life worth living or life that is simply satisfying, which is held by many philosophers to be more important than moral conduct. Most religions have an ethical component, often derived from purported supernatural revelation or guidance.

We can view ethics in two perspectives, which are ethics from the religious perspective and ethics from the secularism perspective. Religious ethics based on what we learned in our religion. Secularism ethics emphasize more on the logical thinking of human beings and do not believe in God. Religious ethics is spiritual while philosophical ethics is cerebral. Besides that, religious ethics are more on emotional or moral sensitivity. Some might say that we cannot be ethical unless we are religious.

In my opinion, ethics should be based on both reason and religion. This is because religion teaches us what is right and what is wrong. Our religious believes guide us how to live our life ethically. For example, the “get-rich-quick” scheme. A get-rich-quick scheme is a plan to acquire high rates of return for a small investment. Most such schemes promise that participants can obtain this high rate of return with little risk. This scheme is wrong from the ethical and moral, as well as the religious perspective. From the law’s perspective, it is wrong as some of the schemes are being done without license. From the Islamic point of view, there is no clear information on how the money is gained and without the existence of honesty.

In conclusion, we should work our way to get what we want and not by taking short cuts. We should practice what we learned from our religion.
